Keeping Tradition Alive

Hi, I’m Dawn Cross.

Sewing has long been a passion of mine. I learned to sew from my mother as a child. I remember the joy of going to the fabric store with my mom, searching for the perfect print to make my summer clothing.

Fast forward to my 20s, and I picked sewing back up. I soon started my obsession with quilting. I love everything about quilting. Next, I started a small mending and hemming business in the small town where I lived.

After joining a historical reenacting group, I soon became immersed in the history of clothing. The fabrics, the eras, the invention of the zipper, how to hand sew button holes, the list goes on.

So when a good friend said to me, "Manitoba needs a kilt maker," I was all in!

For me, kiltmaking is the perfect combination of tradition, craftsmanship, creativity, and skill. I would love to talk with you about your next family heirloom.
